Located close to the picturesque village of St Brides Major on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, you will find the beautiful coastal hotspot; Ogmore-by-Sea.
A fantastic day out for all. On arrival you are met with the dramatic coastline which draws you in as your eyes unravel the spectacular colours of the layers of rock formations. As you explore the beach you might be lucky to find a fossil, enjoy exploring the rock pools, or sink your toes into the sand.
You must take a moment to amble about the ruins of Ogmore Castle. A Grade I listed castle which is located on the banks of the River Ewenny. Depending on the weather, if you time it right it can feel quite atmospheric.
On the same stretch of coastline you can explore further with a visit to Merthyr Mawr sand dunes. These are not for the faint hearted as they stretch for miles with undulating expanses of golden sand and home to an abundance of plant life and insects. If you’re feeling adventurous and wish to reach them by foot from Ogmore-by-Sea, you will need to walk up to Ogmore Castle and then go across the stepping stones. They are simply breathtaking and well worth a visit!
If you’re traveling east from Ogmore-By-Sea and are looking to visit a picturesque Welsh town, we can highly recommend Cowbridge which is approximately ten miles away. Stroll along the attractive streets lined with boutique shops, independent cafes, or enjoy a local tipple from the pub.
